The Ape House by Sara Gruen--February 6 Meeting

Hey, Ladies:

Who needs the Super Bowl? We ate great food--quiche, stew, chips, cake, pie--we talked about the book, a little--and somehow, 2 hours sped by. The most important part of our meeting was sharing all the middle aging we are going through: Hot flashes. Being invisible. Family issues with growing and grown children. Job loss. Aging parents. Retirement. But, on top of all this: Finding ourselves. What an unexpected pleasure of this age. We have new interests, new insight, and women to share them with. We are taking trips to Africa and to local breweries. We are attending writers conferences and attending to sick friends. We need to extend book club to 3 plus hours to fit everything in. I think we ended up talking about movies we've seen based on the books we've read for longer than the book this time.

The consensus was that we liked the book--some of us loved it. I'm going to open the conversation now. What did you think about the portrayal of the bonobo apes? Do you think it was real?
